Seeking to create sensual, dramatic movement while also maintaining a lightweight elegance, Anna Maier/Ulla-Maija designer Charles W. Bunstine II looked to re-worked lace for the Spring 2013 season. "The silhouettes came from the moods I wanted to express," he says, naming both Art Deco and 1950s shapes as inspirations. "Once they were in place, I had to find lace that allowed me to re-craft it to define the body as the design intended."
With this gown, called "Chardae," Bunstine highlights the lines of a bride's body with a silk charmeuse underdress over which sheer lace forms a high neckline and French re-crafted lace and crinkle silk chiffon create the bodice. The back left hip features chiffon and silver thread floral embroidery for a touch of "drama without weight"—or as the designer also calls it, "floating elegance."
