The bride's wedding dress — with no arguments — should be the most beautiful gown being worn that day. So what happens if the mother of the bride wants to wear something that's borderline over the top? Our etiquette expert weigh in below.
Talk to your mom and let her know that although she looks remarkable in the dress she chose, you would prefer if she wore something more simple. Plus, traditionally, the mother of the groom mocks the bride's mother when it comes to length, style, and formality of the dress. So if your mom is planning to wear something flashy, you might be worried that your fiancé's mom will think it's okay to wear something flashy as well.

If there's no budging her on the dress choice, try to let it go. Don't look at it as her trying to upstage you, look at it as her way of being equally excited as you are for this big day. After all, her daughter is about to get married! She probably views this day as an important moment in her life — and she wants to dress like it, too.
