Confirming last week's rumors, Katie Couric married fiancé John Molner in an intimate backyard ceremony at her home in East Hampton, New York, on Saturday.
The perky veteran TV host wore an ivory beaded Chantilly lace halter wedding dress by Carmen Marc Valvo to marry Molner, a financier who proposed in the Hamptons last September. Adorably, Couric only picked out the gown last week — and did so with the help of her future husband!
"I hope this isn't bad luck but I actually tried it on for him," Couric told People of her untraditional decision. "I tried on a number of dresses and I was so busy, I had a crazy spring."
Her groom wore a dark blue suit and a white shirt for the event, which hosted 50 guests, most of whom were family. The ceremony featured readings by Molner's children from his first marriage and Couric's daughters, whom she had with her late husband, Jay Monahan. Couric's younger daughter also sang for the couple, while Molner's nieces served as flower girls.
Décor at the reception featured floral centerpieces by Elisa Held Events, according to Us Weekly. Hark Lane provided the music, and Topping Rose House of Bridgehampton, N.Y., provided the food and cake, a strawberry lemon confection with garden strawberry sorbet.
"We wanted to keep the wedding just very low-key," Couric told People before the nuptials. "This is not my first rodeo so I didn't want to go too crazy and neither did John."
Not only was the wedding sweet and personal, it was planned mostly by the groom, due to Couric's busy schedule. "I call John 'Groomzilla!'" Couric said. "We're a very modern couple."
