Perhaps there is some bad blood between your divorced parents, but you want them each to be an integral part of your wedding. What's the best way to navigate this sticky situation? Our wedding etiquette experts are here to answer your family questions in our daily post.
My mom and dad don't get along, but I want both of them to be involved in my wedding. What should I do?
If your parents are not on good terms, it is a wise idea to have a talk with them separately, early on in the wedding planning process. Explain how important it is to you that each parent is involved in the wedding—they are both adults and ultimately will figure out a way to respectfully get along with each other on your wedding day. With that being said, try to give equal time to both parents and involve them in separate but equal ways. If you go wedding dress shopping with your mom, perhaps you can ask your father to attend the venue walk-through or menu-tasting session. And if your dad walks you down the aisle, maybe you can mix things up with a mother/daughter dance, instead. The most important thing is that your parents are right by your side and supporting you, in spite of their differences, on your wedding day. Trust them to put aside their disagreements for one day (though it's probably a smart idea to seat them across the room from each other at the reception!).
