2014 has barely gotten off the ground, but a brand new survey-in-progress is taking a peek at the bedroom habits of American couples this year (the Year of the Horse, you know) and the early findings might just surprise you.
It's out with Fifty Shades of Grey-style sexual fantasies and in with, well, more of the, shall we say ... vanilla. At least, according to the early findings of the LELO Global Sex Survey, which reports that intimacy is in, and kinky is well, out.
Here are some of the fascinating findings from the "intimate lifestyle products" company that might raise an eyebrow or two:
We're getting more adventurous...
In comparison to sexuality in 2012, folks are getting a little more experimental in bed so far in 2014. A whopping 52 percent of survey respondents have made a naughty movie (compared with 28 percent in 2012) and 35 percent have had sex in public (compared with 27 percent of respondents in 2012.)
But the reality doesn't live up to the fantasy.
So far this year, almost 80 percent of women who responded said that the reality of their sexual fantasies didn't really live up to their expectations. (Sounds like it's goodbye, Christian Grey, and helloooo handsome hubby!)
We're cooling on the BDSM stuff...
While we're betting the Fifty Shades of Grey movie might change this, so far this year more couples are reporting wanting to ditch the handcuffs and whips and instead are opting for slightly tamer sex toys (behold, the vibrator).
So if your sex life seems a little, well, tame these days, you're in good company! And if you need an excuse to liven it up just a little (or just, um, do it more, check out these three ways to have a hotter relationship with your husband, and four reasons you should say yes to morning sex!
