Groom and groomsmen attire seems simple (or, simpler than a wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses, at least) but they require just as much coordination and thought. The male half of the bridal party should wear the same suits, ties or bow ties (if any), boutonnieres, shoes and socks. Is the bride's father also supposed to match the groomsmen? Our wedding etiquette experts are here to answer your menswear questions in our daily post.
Our groomsmen are going to wear seersucker suits, but my dad feels more comfortable in the go-to dark suit he always wears to fancy events. Isn't he supposed to match them?
No worries if Pops is not feeling the stripes. He does not have to be a carbon copy of the groomsmen, but he should complement them in terms of color and formality. His darker duds sound as if they are too formal and severe. If this is the case, suggest something like a khaki suit in a light wool, which will be conservative enough but also guarantee that the men will be unified. You can also tell the men to use other visual cues such as boutonnieres, similar watches, and perhaps matching socks or coordinated dress shirts to suggest unity.
