Do we have to have a first dance? Can we have a cash bar? Am I supposed to tip the band? As you're planning your wedding, you're sure to have many questions about wedding-reception etiquette. Our etiquette experts are here to answer all of your party-planning questions.
Is it okay to provide Hawaiian shirts for the waitstaff at our tropical-themed reception?
That depends on where you're having the party. Some venues allow their waitstaff to go out-of-uniform; others don't. Check with your catering manager. Keep in mind that a tropical theme often looks most appropriate in a casual setting. If you've already booked a more formal site, like a hotel ballroom, and you have your heart set on the shirts, it's still possible to pull off an island theme—but don't hold back on the vivid flowers, bamboo chairs and tiki torches. In a case like this, more is more.
