As we do each season, Brides asked designers showing Fall 2013 collections to grant us a sketched sneak peek at the gowns soon to hit New York runways. (Afterward, it's fun to compare the sketches to the real-life gowns they become.) Here, Ivy & Aster's Jessica Brown offers insight on evoking the glamour of diamonds through a wedding dress:
Describe your collection in a word:
Multifaceted
What inspired this season's theme?
We've been looking at diamonds—any way you look at them they sparkle, which is how we want our customers to feel in our dresses. Each bride shines in her own way, whether she wants to look romantic, sexy, or sweet. In that way, the collection has many "faces."
What is unique about this sketch in particular?
We've interpreted the modern brides' desire for texture and sparkle in the Ivy & Aster way: The skirt is soft and flowing, but it's textured with feminine ruffles, a more modest sheer organza top, and a sparkle collar as a nod toward current ready-to-wear trends.
