Even without the pretext of a traditional Jewish wedding, Natalie Portman's wedding dress made an on-trend statement with its illusion neckline and long sheer sleeves, signaling, once again, the return of coverage for celebrity brides. Sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy—the duo behind enigmatic fashion brand Rodarte—designed the tea-length dress for their famous friend, just as they did the gothic tutu for Portman's Oscar-winning turn in "Black Swan." Rodarte's demure A-line dress couldn't have been farther from feathers, however, when the actress and her ballet-dancing new husband, Benjamin Millepied, married in a moonlit ceremony beneath California's Big Sur sky, which sported such varied guests as to include both Ivanka Trump and Macaulay Culkin. Portman accessorized her look with nude flats, a simple veil, and a crown of blossoms.
For a similar feel to the star's custom dress, we like the sweet silhouette and timeless appeal of Jenny Packham's illusion cap-sleeve dress (above). Ivy & Aster's subtle floral, tea-length option (below, left) also channels the classic vibe of Portman's style, but—as with the Jenny Packham—without the sheer sleeves that define her look. For that, we turn to Mark Zunino's Spring 2013 collection, which offered a closely cut, tulle-sleeved gown (below, right) with just a hint of tutu in its frothy all-over texture—although we understand why Portman didn't opt for such a full, floor-length skirt. Clearly she and Millepied's late-night party was all about the dancing!
