I just got back from Killington, Vermont, a popular spot for skiing in the winter, and a great place for East Coasters to throw a destination wedding in the summer. The pluses: mild weather, loads of outdoor activities for guests (hiking, biking, golf) and great food (yes, the cheese and maple syrup is that good).
While I was up in there, I popped by the intimate, 16-room Vermont Inn, which the owners, Samantha McLemore and J.B. Smith, a lovely young couple, are trying to remake into a destination wedding venue for summer brides and grooms. I was visiting my friend and travel industry guru Anthony Melchiori, the host of the Travel Channel show, Hotel Impossible, who was there to help Sam and J.B. revamp their business—and throw a real wedding (their first in years!) on the front lawn. It was a lot of work for Anthony and his crew, who repainted, spruced up the grounds, and even remade one room into a bridal suite (decorator Blanche Garcia knocked it out of the park—wait until you see this minimalist, rustic-chic suite!). Overall, though Sam and J.B. still have a lot of work to do, I think viewers will be blown away by the results. Tune into the Travel Channel on July 23 at 10 pm ET/PT to see the wedding and makeover magic happen.
