While some brides will certainly gravitate toward the latest, color-soaked trend in bridal fashion, most women aren't charging the salon door to wear a crimson or navy wedding gown. More typical are soft, subtile hues (like dusty purple, sherbet pink, and glacier blue) that convey a delicate romance traditional to the American wedding palette—not that pastels can't also turn up the heat. Photographer Sandra Freij captures some of the season's sizzling confections in "Pale Fire," which recalls Degas' splendid ballerinas at Academy Mansion in New York City for our May 2012 issue.
