Carolina Herrera's Fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection evoked an unusually dark romance for the characteristically soft-hued designer. Skirts featured brooding prints, silhouettes offered more exaggerated shapes, and colors twisted from navy to purple to red. "I took some of those ideas and I translated them for weddings in a different way—different materials, white, little touches of color," Herrera told us before her Spring 2013 Bridal Fashion Week show. "It the same collection, but done for bridal."
Several looks even directly mirrored their prêt-à-porter counterparts, including a champagne and ivory strapless gown with a Warshak-like print, an off-the-shoulder ball gown with an architecturally draped neckline, and an embroidered tulle top fashioned to an ivory taffeta skirt with pockets. "Any woman who's getting married, it's the most important day of her life," Herrera said. "So they should feel that they are wearing something that is really unique."
