In my former life as a non-bridal Beauty Director, I always relied heavily on a handful of designers to deliver the pretty during Fashion Week. While I love the edgy, crazy stuff (as long as it's done well, by like, say Guido and Pat McGrath), I also know that women want to look beautiful.
And brides, of course, want to look super-duper-beautiful.
Thus, Oscar de la Renta has long been in my go-to camp for inspiration for beauty stories. Season after season, he sends his girls sailing down that runway looking gorgeous. And as of this morning, I now know that the hair and makeup at his bridal shows is equally lovely.
In a word, it was polished. Though there was some measure of variation in the hair (by Yann Varin for Varin Salon), including the pre-Raphaelite curls (above) that opened the show, a crisp, architectural bun dominated. In some cases it was swirly and flat; in others, it was almost horizontal in shape. But they were soooo done.
You've heard of the Undone Bun? Well this was the Uber-Done Bun. Oooh, I'm trademarking that!
The makeup, by Kimberly Sloane for Bobbi Brown, was quite soft, punctuated by a rosy cheek. Btw, never underestimate the power of a rosy cheek.
