On a sunny April day at a Charleston, SC, plantation, graduate student Lauren, 27, married her firefighter sweetheart, Steven, 28. The English garden-themed celebration, awash in tones of green, was exactly as Lauren says she'd envisioned it: "fresh, springlike, ethereal—like a dream."
For their portrait together, the groom posed in full firefighter turnout gear. (His tux was underneath.) "Steven came up with the idea for that awesome shot," says the bride. Lauren's directive to the bridesmaids was to, "Buy any dress you like as long as it's short, comfortable, and green."
Two hundred and fifty guests gathered on the grand lawn of Lowndes Grove Plantation, a landmark 18th-century estate on the Ashley River, for the couple's alfresco ceremony.
At the reception, long vases held bells of Ireland (a nod to the bride's heritage), and bowls were filled with ivory peonies and white ranunculus. A design on the couple's wedding invitation inspired the cakes' filigree details. For more details from Lauren and Steven's wedding, see the full slideshow.
