After five years together, Miranda began to speculate exactly when, where, and how Colin would propose. But Colin wanted the moment to be a total surprise. So one day in 2010, while the two were in Colin's parents' house, he simply turned to Miranda and said, "You know, I've had your ring for a long time."

The couple chose that family home as the site for their cocktail hour and reception following an outdoor ceremony at Brumby Hall & Gardens at the Hilton Marietta. The backyard offered plenty of room for the 225 guests, with white tents creating three seating areas. Tables covered in light aqua seersucker tablecloths displayed centerpieces of roses, peonies, billy balls, hydrangeas, and wildflowers set in blue mason jars. The party started with the couple's first dance to Neil Young's "Harvest Moon," performed by a surprise group of singers. "Our friends and family serenaded us. It was one of my favorite moments," recalls Miranda.
