Sure, planning a wedding is one of the most exciting times in your life, but newsflash: It can also be crazy stressful. To keep the headaches to a minimum, we're breaking down three digital "strategies" that might not make your planner, vendors or guests happy, but they will certainly make your life a lot easier.
1. Creating a Wedding-Only Email
Not only will a dedicated account keep you organized and control the chaos of inquiries assaulting your inbox, but it can protect you from overly aggressive vendors. Some wedding expos or bridal stores will sell the information you put down on your registration form; might as well head 'em off at the pass with a throwaway email.
How to pull it off: Make the email memorable enough, like firstname.wedding@gmail.com but don't forget to let your favorite vendors and contacts know your real email once the big day is over.
2. Populating a Fake Wedding Board on Pinterest
Because nosy people will nose around until they find what they're looking for. Because you want to surprise people and throw them off from what you're really planning. Because you want your arch nemesis to think you're having the event of the century. And so on.
How to pull it off: Give your fake board a vague name like "Wedding Thoughts." If anyone gets upset or offended by your misleading board, you can say it was just a generic board for you and friends.
3. Turning Off (or Password-Protecting) the WiFi in Your Venue
Maybe the groomsmen have a tacky plan involving a projector and a YouTube video, and it terrifies you. Or maybe you just want to minimize how many people will be playing/sharing on social media instead of being in the moment. Whatever your reason, this is for the unapologetic control freaks out there.
How to pull it off: Most people can get some sort of LTE service on their phones, so this is mostly for hindering laptop connections — or simply discouraging people who are diligent about connecting to WiFi instead of using Data. (With less and less unlimited data plans out there, the ability to connect to WiFi is making a comeback.) Ask the person in charge of venue operations for help, but be prepared with a crazy excuse, like how a guest has a rare electromagnetic hypersensitivity condition.
