New York City-based label Houghton creates wedding-day styles for the cool, bohemian bride-to-be. Case in point: Ashlee Simpson sported not one but two custom Houghton looks for her wedding to Evan Ross in late August. And while the label's consistently chic and out-of-the-box collections are what first caught our attention about this ready-to-wear-turned-bridal-designer, this season Houghton's creative director Katharine Polk took the drama up a notch.
While last season's Houghton looks proved bridal mainstays like tulle, ruffles, and crystals can be given edge when paired with motorcycle jackets and leather tops, the designer's latest styles lean towards a totally different aesthetic. As seen above, this collection showcased a floor-length two-piece lace wedding dress with a daring v-neckline and a romantic blush-toned sheath with ruffled tiers and a square halter neckline. The styles are sexy, but still offer reminders of more classic wedding styles thanks to the familiar fabrications and silhouettes.

From a glammed-up take on nontraditional colored dresses, as seen at left, to a floral menswear inspired pantsuit, seen third, we love how Houghton offers unique twists on popular trends. And for the bride to-to-be that is looking for something traditional yet still fresh, consider the designer's two lace options. A long-sleeved lace sheath gets a contemporary update thanks to a sheer skirt and sleeves while a knee-length eyelet dress is an airier, more modern way to wear the popular fabric.

And let's not forget about the beauty looks. While the bright highlighting might not be totally wedding-day appropriate, there's something to be said about the rest of the fresh-faced look. With an emphasis on long, luscious lashes and a pale pink lip, brides should take at least a few cues from Houghton's collection for their wedding -day makeup, too.
