A couple's grand exit can be made even more memorable by a scattering of rose petals or a release of white doves, but some departures require significantly more planning than others. Case in point, a sparkler exit calls for a bit of extra forethought than the average rice toss. But how can a couple arrange for their guests to create a sparkler-lit send-off without presiding over the exit from beginning to end? Our etiquette experts weigh in on how to create the perfect sparkler send-off at a wedding.

The preparations you make before your wedding are not only to create an enjoyable and memorable experience, but planning is also necessary to make sure you and your husband have nothing to do but relish every moment of your nuptials instead of attempting to play party planner and guest of honor simultaneously. Attempting to shepherd guests outside and command each attendee to take a sparkler before you reach the door is not the ideal way to cap off the best day of your life.

Instead of scrambling to personally take care of the logistics, arrange for a member of the wedding party, an emcee, or your DJ to give guests the appropriate instructions regarding your exit. Provide a signal to the chosen party when you decide to make your escape, and ask that he or she make an announcement to guests with instructions regarding how to proceed. Guests should be advised to make their way to the door, where a staff member or a container of some sort will dispense sparklers. You may also wish to select a member of your wedding party to lead the way and begin the reception recessional outside. Once you've appointed a wedding emcee of sorts, you will be able to fully enjoy your departure with the support of your guests.
