The celebrity rumor mill has been abuzz that rapper Kendrick Lamar and his high school sweetheart, Whitney Alford, are engaged and Lamar has finally set the record straight. So are they or aren't they?
Us Weekly reports that the 27-year-old rapper visited Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club show this morning to talk about his new album, but the hosts also asked the rapper to shed some light on the engagement rumors. "Yeah, yeah, definitely," Lamar responded when asked if he was or was not set to wed to Alford. "I'm loyal to the soil."

He was very appreciative when the radio hosts offered warm congratulations and went on to share some sweet sentiments about commitment. "At the end of the day, you want to always, always have real people around you, period," Lamar said. "Whether it's male or female, and everybody that's been around me, they've been around since day one... I always show respect when respect has been given, and people that have been by your side, you're supposed to honor that."
The pair has been together for about 10 years and Alford was only recently spotted wearing a diamond ring on that finger. In January, Lamar talked to Billboard about Alford, explaining just how important their relationship is to him. "I wouldn't even call her my girl," he said. "That's my best friend. I don't even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion — she's somebody I can tell my fears to."
Congratulations to the happy couple!
