Any bride with a budget in mind knows that finding areas to penny pinch is an important facet of the wedding planning process. From in-season blooms to an off-the-rack gown, there are infinite ways to save and still create a blissful big day. One major source of financial output is your reception catering, but will a completely vegetarian meal make your wedding seem substandard? Our etiquette experts weigh in.

If expense is your primary concern, you shouldn't worry about choosing a vegetarian menu over an omnivorous one. A vegetarian menu can be just as costly as a meat-laden meal. Depending on your chosen caterer, the complexity of each recipe, the rarity of ingredients used, and how many guests you need to feed, a vegetarian meal could easily become considerably more expensive than one containing meat.

However, if your misgivings only regard how a vegetarian meal will appear to guests as opposed to the finances involved, you have no cause for concern; from The Butcher's Daughter in New York City to Café Gratitude in Venice, California, vegetarian restaurants are having a major foodie moment. Simply make sure your caterer's ingredients are fresh and above all, ensure the chef doesn't resort to staid dishes that are minimally satisfying.

If you do wish to try the vegetarian route with your menu, do take a moment to think of your guests' dietary preferences. While some guests will be thrilled with you innovative vegetable-based menu, carnivores may not find the meal satisfying.
