John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are arguably one of the cutest newlywed couples in Hollywood, but their sizzling hot romance didn't quite start as a burning flame. After tying the knot in a gorgeous ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, last September, these two have been nothing but blissfully in love, but now the songwriter is admitting their fairytale love story didn't start off as love at first sight.
That's right: According to Us Weekly, Legend sat down with Los Angeles Confidential and said when he first met Teigen seven years ago, he had no idea she was the woman he'd ultimately marry.
When asked if he immediately felt a love connection to his now wife, he replied, "Not right away." But it wasn't for lack of interest! Legend dished that he wanted to grow into their relationship. "I'm more cautious than that. I wasn't like, 'This is the woman I'm going to marry' from day one. For me I'm the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever."
As for Teigen, she admits she was smitten from the get-go, but played it cool to impress Legend. "I'm not going to lie. I left him by himself for a while," she told Cosmopolitan in June. "The worst thing you can do is try to lock someone like that down early on, then have them think, 'There's so much more out there.' I played it cool for a long time. Never once did I ask, 'What are we?' Marriage was never my goal, because I've never been very traditional. I was just happy to be with him."
No matter how their relationship started out, these two seem happier than ever!
