After you say "I do," but before you jet off of on your honeymoon, you might want to send out wedding announcements. Different from engagement announcements, these are a nice way to include everyone who wasn't invited or couldn't go to your wedding. Sharing the happy news that you're married after the wedding in the form of a printed or handwritten announcement is never obligatory, but it is a nice idea. The year is always included as part of the date on an announcement; there are some other common customs involved should you choose to follow this wedding tradition. Who receives wedding announcements?
Printed or handwritten ones sent through the mail can serve a useful purpose. These are generally sent to those friends and family who were left off the guest list because the celebration was too small to accommodate them or to acquaintances or business associates who, while not particularly close to the family, might still wish to hear the news of the marriage.
When are announcements mailed out?
Ideally, they're sent the day after the wedding, but may be mailed up to several months later.
What is the traditional wording for announcements?
They are traditionally sent in the name of the bride's parents, with wording as follows:
