Mess-Free Snacks for Wedding Prep

One of the biggest mistakes brides make on their wedding day? Forgetting to eat! With all of the nerves and excitement in the air, we can't really blame brides for passing up on the platters of mini muffins and passing around the champagne instead. However, if you don't want you or your BFFs to pass out at the altar (yes, it's happened before), we suggest you get some food in your bellies, even if it is only in the form of snacks.

1. Bite-Sized Everything
Well, almost! "Think mini desserts, mini quiches and teeny tiny sandwiches that can be popped into your mouth in one bite, no plastic ware or plates needed," says Texas-based makeup artist Jennifer Trotter, who specializes in weddings. "Avoid anything that has to be cut up or eaten with a fork and knife." Other no-no's include red wine, berries, cupcakes with brightly colored frosting, hard candy (which can stain your teeth and tongue) and foods like Cheetos and Doritos that tend to coat your fingers in that dreaded orange dust, ugh.

2. Unsalted Nuts
For a quick energy boost sans the mess and bloat, you really can't go wrong with unsalted nuts. You'll get the protein you need for the day. Plus, you won't wipe any lingering salt on your dress ...

3. A Fruit Tray
While you probably won't want to sink your chompers into a gigantic piece of watermelon, small pieces of cut fruit (nothing too juicy) on skewers are great. Fruit, like bananas, which don't require forks or touching with your fingers, are smart options too, adds Lauren Harris-Pincus, MS, RDN, owner of Nutrition Starring You.

4. Cheese & Crackers
An oldie but a goody! Yes, crackers and pre-cut cheese cubes on toothpicks are completely expected but that's because they work — it's filling and mess-free.

5. Protein Bars
"The day of the wedding, it's important for brides and bridesmaids to balance their blood sugar and sustain their energy levels with nutritious snacks that contain protein, carbs and healthy fat," advises Harris-Pincus. Look for ones that aren't loaded with sugar.
