He may spend his days dishing about the juiciest celebrity breakups on E! News, but Jason Kennedy is actually quite the romantic. Case in point: His elaborate proposal this past Friday to girlfriend, fashion blogger and Still LoLo author Lauren Scruggs (who, you may recall, suffered from a horrifying accident in December 2011 in which she lost her left eye and hand), was like something from a movie. Here's how it went down:
Kennedy posted an Instagram photo claiming that he was flying to New York City, when, in reality, he was on his way to Scruggs's hometown of Dallas to pop the question! Here, you can see Kennedy's social media-driven rouse:
A few hours later, Kennedy shared a photo of himself standing in her front lawn among large candles that spelled out: "Will you marry me?" The caption accompanying the shot is just as cute: "Truth is I never flew to New York, I flew to Dallas and asked her if she would spend the rest of her life with me. I love you @laurenscruggs"
As far as an audience goes, Kennedy asked Scruggs to marry him in front of close family and friends. Once she met her man downstairs (since she initially spotted him from her balcony), he presented her with a Jennifer Meyer diamond engagement ring.
Kennedy (obviously) confirmed the engagement scoop to E! News, saying, "It's a blur but I can't stop smiling. She told me I couldn't surprise her, but I got her good. This is the best night of my life."
The newly-engaged pair's relationship was only confirmed by Us Weekly this past July, when an insider told the magazine, "They're cute. It is like courting — high school love." Kennedy also spoke about his lady in Glamour's March 2014 issue. "Being a so-called good boy has paid off for me," he said. "I've got my dream job. And I've found my dream girl."
It looks like Scruggs found her dream man as well. In addition to the adorable Instagram photo of the couple, above, Scruggs wrote: "Possibly the best night of my life. I love you beyond."
She also shared a snap of white tulips the day after the proposal with a sweet caption: "tulips for days in my house!!! #dozensanddozens #sothankful #stillinshock #enjoyingeveryminute"
It looks like Kennedy is still reeling from his pending nuptials as well — just today he posted a photo of him hugging co-host Giuliana Rancic and noted that she was the one who introduced them. "Seeing @giulianarancic for the first time since the proposal. Btw she set us up! #matchmaker"
Congrats to the happy couple!
