White-on-white is a timeless and romantic wedding-color scheme. And while it's easy to incorporate the neutral hue into your big-day fashion choices (white bridesmaid dresses are still a major trend thanks to Pippa Middleton), using white flowers in wedding centerpieces can be more difficult. Many couples fear that the money they spend on the blooms will be for naught if the pale color disappears into the background. So, what are some good ways to make white flowers stand out? Our wedding style experts are here to help!
We don't want the white flowers in our wedding centerpieces to fade into the background of the rest of our reception. What can we do?
It's natural to be concerned about this, particularly if you are using white tablecloths or if your reception space has white walls (many do). But you shouldn't worry — no matter their surroundings, white blooms can and do make a major impact. "For peak drama, your florist should give them seven to 10 days to fully open," says celebrity event designer Preston Bailey, author of Designing with Flowers, which came out in May. This way, the fully bloomed buds will be at their largest size and will really stand out. Also, include different types of greenery for contrast, consider placing the arrangements in silver or gold vases, and try sprinkling the tables with votives. Candlelight brings out the snowy tones beautifully.
