Bridal fashion week may have just ended, but we're still buzzing from all of the runway-related excitement including our sit down with the beautiful ladies behind Marchesa, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. We chatted with the fashion powerhouses at their event for their new Wedding Paper Divas invitation collection (which, if you haven't seen it yet, you should seriously check out stat!), but we also got them to spill on a few other topics including their most memorable wedding dress designs, favorite red carpet moments, and their advice for brides-to-be. Here, what we learned about the Marchesa designers.
Like us, they suffer from major dress envy.
"After every show Keren and I are like, 'Hmmm maybe we should get remarried' — with our current husbands, of course," Georgina divulged.
Every one of their designs hold a special place in their hearts — especially Nicole Richie's wedding dress(es).
"When we're thinking about the bride we're really trying to think about all the different occasions they may be wearing the dress whether it could be a cathedral wedding or a garden wedding," Keren said. "There's so many different dresses that I think hold magical places in our hearts."
"And it's so much fun designing different dresses," Georgina added. "We had a lot of fun with Nicole Richie's wedding, actually, because she wore four different dresses. So it was really fun. She went from a very classical look to something completely rock-and-roll."
If you want to have a red carpet moment on your wedding day, videotape your fittings!
"We had a fitting yesterday and it was actually great because the lady we were fitting asked us to film her, in the dress, and see her walking," Georgina said. "It was so good. Normally we take photographs, but now that's going to be my thing. Film yourself in the dress. Get your friend to do that, see how you move. See how you feel in it. Because the way you stand is different in each dress, and that's when you can really get the, 'Oh my gosh, that's the one' feeling. Your whole body will change when you put on the right one. You can see that confidence coming through. So I think that'll be my new tip. Film yourself. You see different angles you might not get in a photograph."
And don't forget about checking how your dress looks in different lighting!
"I think it's always good to check with different lights to make sure you have enough lining, etc," Keren added.
Their favorite red-carpet look was their first.
"It's hard but our first ever look was with Renee Zellweger so I think to Keren and I that's most special," said Georgina. "She was the first person who ever believed in us enough to stand in front of a bank of photographers and say 'I'm in Marchesa.'"
