Traditional ceremony decorations are made of floral arrangements, but these days, there really are no rules and almost anything goes. More and more couples are getting creative with their ceremony décor, dreaming up completely unique backdrop ideas that are full of personality and style. So, whether you're dressing up a blank space or creating an altar space outdoors, these gorgeous wedding backdrop ideas will help tie your theme together and add major "wow" factor to the look of your "I Do's."

Geometric Mural: Seriously, how fun is the above backdrop? This San Diego couple imagined a festive, colorful wedding celebration and created this beautifully bright mural to serve as their ceremony scenery.

Gold Dots: Punch up a blank white wall by adding a cascade of fun polka dots in your wedding colors. This is an easy DIY project: Purchase a giant circle cutter or paper punch from your local craft store and get to work punching out circles from rolls of wrapping paper. Then, affix them to the wall using removable tack (be sure to check with your venue to get the OK, first). Or, save a ton of time by purchasing dot-shaped decals — they're easy to apply and (the best part) are totally removable!

Custom Signage: Do you have a favorite wedding motto or logo? Hire a local woodworker to turn your design into a custom wood sign. Paint it in your colors (this one is a glittery gold), then suspend it from an archway made of greenery and flowers to create a picture-perfect focal point for your ceremony.

DIY Garland: This clever backdrop is made of (you'll never guess!): paper plates. This crafty bride painted hundreds of plates in their wedding colors, punched a hole in the middle of each one, and strung them together to create this modern display for their outdoor ceremony.

Fabric Runner: If you find a bolt of fabric you like that matches your wedding theme, then buy yards and yards of it, and extend it from the back wall and down the length of the aisle. Here, they also stacked PVC tubes to create a modern display flanking the runner, which also served as vessels for matching floral arrangements.
