A magnet or engagement photo is a safe route to go when it comes to your save-the-date cards, but we recommend getting a little bit more creative since the invite-before-the-invite is your first opportunity to show guests who you are as a couple. The right wedding announcement also helps set the tone for your big day, whether you're throwing a black-tie affair or a backyard barbeque bash.

Save-the-dates serve another purpose besides just looking pretty: They're an essential part of wedding etiquette. You must give guests enough time to make travel arrangements — even if you're not hosting a destination wedding.

To help you find the right save-the-date, we recruited expert stationer Cheree Berry to decode ten unique options for any style of wedding. From a digital save-the-date that's way more sophisticated than an email blast to trendy ombré or laser-cut cards, these announcements are guaranteed to stand out in your guests' mail stacks. One of our favorites was the modern, typographical option shown above featuring a tucked-away shot from the couple's engagement session. It's romantic and sophisticated without reading overdone or cheesy.
