Beach weddings can veer in many different directions. There are rustic affairs on driftwood beaches, fiestas held on the sands of Mexico, and formal, black-tie nuptials that just happen to give guests the option of going barefoot. A great idea is to reflect the gorgeous colors of a seaside sunset into your wedding color palette. Pale pink and blue seem like natural choices for this kind of theme, but are they too baby shower-like for a wedding? Our wedding etiquette experts are here to answer your wedding style questions on our daily post.
I want to use pale pink and blue for my beach wedding. How do I steer clear of baby-shower territory?
These colors will definitely look fabulous for a beach wedding, but only when properly balanced. To elevate this perennial favorite palette, pick one dominant pastel and use the other only for accents. And choose your tones wisely: Instead of bubble-gum pink and baby blue, opt for a more sophisticated combo, like blush and periwinkle. Finally, break up those pretty pastels with a clean neutral—taupe or gray would look gorgeous—and finish with grown-up details like sea-glass vases and shells. (Avoid balloons.)
