Elizabeth, 28, a fashion editor, and Tom, 34, an event producer, travel to the most enchanting cities around the globe for work, but always knew they'd get married in New York City. "There's no place on earth with the same energy and spirit," Elizabeth says. So they let the city that never sleeps inspire their all-day wedding. The couple followed their morning reception and luncheon with a late-night bash — post disco-nap, of course. "I loved getting to celebrate all day," says Elizabeth. And considering her profession, it's not surprising that the brides made more than one dress change. In fact, she had three: She said "I Do" in Monique Lhuillier, met guests in the evening in vintage Tom Ford for Gucci, and then capped off the night in a dress custom-made by Naeem Khan.
For more scoop on Elizabeth and Tom's lavish wedding, you'll have to pick up the April/May 2014 issue of Brides (on newsstands now!). But as a bonus, we're sharing five things every bride-to-be can learn from this couple's cosmopolitan nuptials:
Create a (Flexible) Budget: Tom and Elizabeth put together a budget early on, but left some wiggle room, knowing they'd probably exceed it. "We constantly revised as new details came to light," she says.
Don't Go Wedding-Crazy: "We limited ourselves to only one big wedding meeting per week," says the bride. "We didn't want to over-talk about it or have it take over our lives."
Plan Wisely: Elizabeth created to-do lists and monthly schedules to help keep her planning on-track.
Know Your Skills: Tom and Elizabeth's creative jobs gave them a lot to work with when it came to designing and planning their wedding day. It helped them pull the whole thing off in just 10 months.
Don't Forget Each Other On the Wedding Day: "I loved spending the afternoon with Tom, getting ready for the evening celebration," says Elizabeth. "We were already married, so it was calm, and it was nice to have some time just the two of us."
