Technically, Teri and Kevin met when he first sat down in her chair at the hair salon for a trim. But before he even walked through the door, their mutual friend Deana was hard at work setting them up. "She told him to come see me for a haircut, and instructed me to flirt with him," says Teri. "I didn't know why she said that then, but I guess I know now!" Over the next few months, they saw each other once in a while, but often missed one another by mere minutes as they showed up early or late to parties. "But every two to three months, he was back in my chair for a trim," says Teri. Finally, Deana worked her magic once again, convincing them both to meet her for a drink—at the same time! "We sat down for a drink and, who knows how long later, Kevin and I looked up, and everyone else was gone," Teri says. "He finally asked for my number, and called the next morning." She was surprised because Kevin usually isn't so quick-moving. But Kevin later told Teri why it only took a few hours: "He'd been waiting since we met seven months earlier!"
After more than three years together, the couple had their friend help them design a ring. Teri told him what she liked, and the rest was up to Kevin. On December 23rd, 2012, Kevin and Teri went to the Idaho Botanical Gardens to see the garden covered in lights. They walked around in the freezing cold, occasionally stopping to sit on benches, and then moving on. (It turns out Kevin was looking for the right moment to pop the question, but just wasn't satisfied yet!) As they left the garden, they found out Teri's mom was in the ER with the flu. "She was feeling better after seeing a doctor," says Teri," so we brought her home and headed to the train depot at the top of the city." They sat on yet another freezing bench, and were interrupted again, this time by a bus full of party-goers looking for a restroom. With the mood ruined once again, Kevin and Teri set off for a walk and stumbled upon a gazebo... with a bench. They sat down, and finally the time was right. Kevin pulled out the ring and, in Teri's words, "Bam! Engaged!"
Once the weather warmed up, the couple took to the streets of Boise for a fun-filled engagement shoot—complete with champagne, confetti, and a tandem bike!

Kerry of Heirloom Collective is one of Teri's close friends, so their choice of photographer was a no-brainer. She's also Teri's Maid of Honor!

"Kevin and I really love bike riding," says Teri, "and we couldn't figure out how to incorporate that into the engagement shoot. One of my wonderful clients let us borrow her tandem bike. It was perfect!"

The weather was perfect during the day—sunny and warm. "Right at 5:00, the clouds rolled in," says Teri. "The good thing is, most of our photos didn't include the sky!"

Deana, the friend who introduced Teri and Kevin, unfortunately passed away before they were engaged. In her memory, they had cans of Sofia to celebrate their engagement, as well as during the shoot.

"There's no question that we'll be serving Sofia at the wedding," says Teri. "We want to have a piece of Deana there with us."

The couple took to the foothills of Boise for more photos, racing around to get in all the photos "before the skies opened up," Teri remembers.

A picnic—complete with Sofia Blanc de Blancs—was a sweet end to the day. "Having my friend shoot our photos really put us at ease," says Teri.

Kevin and Teri also took advantage of the opportunity to shoot their Save the Date. "I knew it was going to say 'WE'RE HAVING AN OPEN BAR! Oh, and a Wedding,' and Kerry came up with the idea for confetti," says Teri. Now that's a wedding we'd love to be invited to!
