An Elegant, Laid-Back Wedding at The Allen Farm in Martha's Vineyard, MA

Though Alexandra and Greg both worked for the same company in 2009, they didn't meet at work. Instead, it was at a beachfront bar called Calico Jacks on Grand Cayman. "We both worked for different divisions of the company," remembers Alexandra, "and finally met on a company trip!" How often does an office romance begin this far out of the office?

A few years later, on a trip to New Hampshire's Black Mountains, Greg arranged for the couple to go on a trail ride. "I grew up riding horses, and love them very much," says Alexandra. At the top of the mountain, the couple got off their horses to take photos, and Greg got down on one knee.

When it came to select a wedding location, Alexandra had just one place in mind: Martha's Vineyard. "We used to vacation every summer at my grandfather's home on the island," says the bride. "My mother and stepfather were married at the church nearby, and it has been my happy place since I was a child." Greg came to love it just as much as Alexandra, and so a date was set. The couple wed on September 28th, 2013, and celebrated with an elegant island-inspired reception that showed off the best of what the Vineyard has to offer.

Alexandra purchased her simple lace gown at Kleinfeld. "It was completely timeless," she says.

Who doesn't love a bride with two pairs of shoes? Alexandra wore both blue pony Ruthie Davis sandals and silver glitter Manolo Blahnik pumps.

Alexandra's sister and mother assembled canvas welcome bags full of local goodies to treat the couple's 90 guests.

Alexandra skipped a veil, and wore her hair in a simple low chignon so as not to cover her gown's keyhole back.

The bride carried a simple all-white bouquet of roses, lisianthus, and ranunculus blossoms, accented with freesia, perfect for the wedding's laid-back yet elegant vibe. Greg's boutonniere featured a single overblown white ranunculus. Greg wore a red tie covered in fly fisherman, which he also gifted to his groomsmen.

Alexandra's bridesmaids each wore navy J.Crew dresses of their own choosing. Each woman carried a soft bouquet of white and pink roses, freesia, and dusty miller leaves.

Greg and Alexandra exchanged vows in the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury, the same church where her mother and stepfather were wed.

The altar was flanked by classic arrangements of white hydrangeas, roses, and freesia, surrounded by bright greenery.

After the ceremony, guests lined the walkway with cream and gold ribbon wands.

Alexandra and Greg exited the church beneath a shower of ribbon wands. They journeyed around town for their portraits, stopping at a local shop and pausing for a moment on a dock overlooking the water, enjoying the perfect New England fall day.

The groom got in on the DIY wedding projects! Greg drew the fish used on the place cards and table names, from lobsters and Bluefin tunas to sharks. "We had a dance contest later in the night, and the winners got to take home the original drawings," says Alexandra.

The reception took place under a sailcloth tent, overlooking the ocean. Café lights sparkled from above.

The farm tables were topped with simple purple and white arrangements of roses, tulips, lisianthus, dahlias, and bright greenery.

Instead of a traditional guest book, Greg and Alexandra had their guests sign one of their favorite cookbooks.

The couple opted for a tower of cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake, giving guests the choice between rich chocolate and classic vanilla.

The couple danced all night, then headed off on a two-week honeymoon to Paris and Provence.

Alexandra and Greg chose wedding venues that would shine without too much décor. "We saved money by prioritizing and spending money on the things we really care about," says the bride. "My best advice is to keep a good budget!"
