Well, she sure hit a slam dunk: Gabrielle Union got engaged to Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade this past weekend.
It didn't take long for the actress to share her joy with the world. Immediately following the proposal, Union posted a picture to Instagram of her stunning (and huge) ring with the caption: "Sooooo this happened... #Yessss"
No, you don't need to check your eyesight. The ring is an 8.5 cushion-cut diamond solitaire fashioned by Jason of Beverly Hills, reports Us Weekly (the same jeweler that crafted Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles's Heather Bilyeu's round-cut stunner). Union joins the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kelly Rowland, who also sport sizable (and by sizable, we mean out-of-this-world) cushion-cut engagement rings.
Wade also took to Twitter and Instagram to share the happy news. "She said YES!!!" the NBA star wrote alongside a picture of Union's hand in his, with, of course, the eye-catching ring on her finger. He popped the question right before the Miami Heat Christmas party. His teammates couldn't have been more thrilled for their guard, and expressed their excitement via social media as well. "The @MiamiHEAT Christmas party always brings great traditions and the BEST surprises," Adrienne Bosh, wife of Heat forward Chris Bosh, tweeted at the party. Micky Arison, the Miami Heat managing general partner, also tweeted "A special evening-congrats."
The newly-engaged couple have been open about their love for one another ever since they began dating in 2009. The Associated Press even reports that the pair sent out holiday cards from the "Wade-Union" family this year, before the engagement was even announced. Wade has three sons (one of which is a nephew he's raising as is his own) who adorably helped pop the question. The Heat star told the Associated Press that his youngest son, Zion, held a sign with Union's name, his nephew, Dahveon Morris, held a sign that said "Will you?" and his oldest son held a sign that said "marry us?" The only thing that's cuter than that news is the photo, below, of the couple's joyous embrace post-proposal.
