Many brides and grooms choose not to have a receiving line at their wedding, but the ones who opt to include one in their big day have some decisions to make. Is it worth having? Who stands in it? Will it cut into the reception time? With all of these questions, and more, it's a time-honored tradition worth figuring out. But what if your groom wants to drink during it? My fiancé has proposed doing tequila shots on the receiving line. To me, it sounds tacky, and I know that my older relatives will be appalled. I don't want to be a jerk, but I also don't want to be mean! How can I tell him that I don't think it's a great idea?
Tacky? Possibly. But trouble? For sure. He may want to do one as a celebration, along with you and your joint bridal party, and then call it quits. But some grooms may want to keep the party going the whole time, and that's when it might get dicey. If your guy does shot after shot on the receiving line, imagine the condition he'll be in by the time he greets the last guest! Ask him what he's thinking, but regardless, propose an alternative: Instead, offer tequila shots for the toast—along with wine and sparkling water.
