Many couples choose to add "adults only" to their wedding invitations. But should a bride and groom planning a child-free celebration make an exception for an infant? Our etiquette experts answer your wedding guest questions in our daily post.

Should we allow my friend to bring her one-month-old to the wedding?

Not only should you not make an exception, but a wedding is no place for a baby that young. "At that age, his immune system isn't completely developed, so he shouldn't be exposed to a large group of people," says Heather O'Donnell, M.D., a New York City pediatrician. "He won't be getting his first round of vaccinations until he's two months old, so he's also at a much greater risk for bacterial infections." If your friend is uncomfortable leaving her son for such an extended length of time, she could consider going to only the ceremony or reception or trading shifts with her husband so they can each attend a portion of the event.
