No offense to everyone else, but the bride's wedding dress should be the fanciest one at the event. So how should you let your future mother-in-law that her gown is way too much? Our etiquette experts have a few tips about discussing dresses with the mother of the groom in our daily post.

My future mother-in-law's dress is fancier than mine. Though the wedding is on the beach, she picked a beaded gown! How do I ask her to return it and get something less flashy?

Sounds like your fiancé's mom wants to celebrate big-time! Before you do anything, understand that no matter what anyone else wears, no one can upstage the bride. Just think about it: The entire day's events revolve around you (and your groom, of course). That said, ask your fiancé to have a talk with his mom and explain that your wedding will have a breezy, beachside ambience. Describe the dress your mom is planning to wear; traditionally, the mother of the groom follows the bride's mother's lead in terms of style, length and formality. If his mom is still determined to wear the beaded outfit, let it be. Look at it as her way of showing the importance of your day.
