Our friends at WeddingWire released a report last week that concluded 33 percent of engagements take place between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. That's not a difficult statistic to believe considering how many celebrities got engaged in the past few weeks. But it also got us wondering just how many other thirty-third percentiles made headlines this year. Here's what we found:

Facebook was cited in 33 percent of divorce petitions in the UK as a source of inappropriate spousal behavior. (Twitter was cited in 20 percent.) —Daily Tech

Apple spent 33 percent more in 2011 on research and development than in 2010, increasing from $1.8 billion to $2.4 billion. —GigaOM

Also in companies-that-run-the-world news, Google's third-quarter earnings in 2011 rose 33 percent from the same period in 2010, netting the company $9.72 billion in revenue for that quarter alone. —Android Central

The average national gasoline price in the US rose 33 percent between Sept. 2010 and Sept. 2011, from $2.76 per gallon to $3.67 per gallon. —Lake Co News

Tragically, America's child homelessness rate increased 33 percent between 2007 and 2011 to a high of 1.6 million children. —USA Today

On the other hand, a new study reports 33 percent less physical bullying in elementary schools that participate in the preventative "Steps to Respect" program. —Committee For Children
