Creative Director Sarah Burton made international headlines with the design of the Alexander McQueen gown that (mum-to-be!) Catherine Middleton wore to marry Prince William in April 2011. Step back in time and revisit the career of the man behind the fashion house in Katherine Gleason's masterful new tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen's design career, Alexander McQueen: Evolution ($35, Race Point Publishing). The encyclopedic book, in stores now, opens with his 1992 graduation collection and closes with his famed "Plato's Atlantis," and the spectacularly regal posthumous collection presented in Paris in the spring of 2010.

Each of McQueen's thirty-five runway shows possesses a distinct narrative, which Gleason captures and further articulates through vivid runway photography and quotes from the designer and his closest friends ("I get my ideas out of my dreams ... if you're lucky enough to use something you see in a dream, it is purely original. It's not in the world—it's in your head," said McQueen). An in-depth, well-researched retrospective, the book captures the beauty and the mystery that inspired the work of one of the most talented designers of our time.
