For an outdoor wedding, I love this letterpress-printed invitation by stationer Mika78. Called "The Quote," the design features an illustration of a tree, with leaves gently blowing in the wind, paired with a quote from Louis de Bernières novel Corelli's Mandolin (printed at the very bottom). I also love the design's elegant use of white space—the overall look is fresh and unexpected.

Editors' Pick: Meryl Streep's Oscar Dress

The Oscar's are three short weeks away and designers are helping celebrities pick the perfect dress for the red carpet. We've been busy at the office coming up with our predictions of who might wear what, but until the stars step out of their limos the secret is a secure as the name in the Oscar envelope.

Meryl Streep is no stranger to the awards shows and this year was nominated for Best Actress for her role in The Iron Lady. While we thought her shirt dress by Alessandra Rich at this year's Golden Globes was a bit of a miss, we loved the white Chris March gown she wore to the 2010 Oscars and thought this taupe mother-of-the-bride dress by Watters Collection 20 had a similar streamlined quality.

I love the vintage quality of this petite centerpiece by Petalena Flowers. Coral charm peonies, Juliet garden roses, Quicksand roses, and parrot tulips cascade over a silver vase, while poppy pods and maidenhair ferns give the centerpiece a hint of greenery. The stack of books is equally inspiring. This arrangement would look lovely at a tented summertime affair, like Christina and Will's Gatsby-inspired wedding.

Steal This Look: Drew Barrymore's Tonight Show J.Crew Dress

Despite the nearly-4-carat diamond ring on her hand, it was Drew Barrymore's floral silk dress, $190, from J.Crew that brightened up the set of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week. And if Drew can wear it, you can wear it.

The boxy, 60s-shift cut keeps the style understated, thus balancing out the bold colors of the print. Drew highlighted deep purple tones by styling her look with black tights and purple Brian Atwood suede pumps.

Give the dress your own twist (a stack of bright bangles, perhaps?) as an effortlessly chic option for bridal showers and rehearsal dinners—like Drew, you'll be the center of attention. Or, if you're off on your honeymoon to a floral-splashed locale, take the dress with you. You'll fit right in!

See our picks below for styling the look three different ways:

Anna and Jesse, both Chicago natives, first met in high school in 1996, but didn't start dating till 10 years later, when Anna returned to the city after college and bumped into Jesse on the train. For their wedding, they wanted a venue that was beautiful but not overly ornate, and loved the elegant simplicity of the Millcreek Barns.

Anna wore a J.Crew dress that she accessorized with her grandmother's gold locket and a bouquet of peonies and antique roses. Jesse sported a gray Italian suit from Suits 20/20. Bridesmaids donned pink J.Crew dresses with sashes made by one of the bridesmaids, while the groomsmen wore attire by Perry Ellis.

The ceremony was held just outside the barn, the entrance of which was decorated with pendant flags made from vintage fabrics. The ceremony included musical selections performed on fiddle by the Friesen-Gehring Family.

Inside the barn, tables were decorated with blooms in vintage vessels; Anna's mother created all of the wedding's floral designs. Jars of apple butter, also provided by Jesse's father, were given as favors. "The orchard is such a special place, we really wanted to share it," Anna says.

Jesse's father, who owns a local apple orchard, provided an array of treats for the reception, including apple chutney (served with cheese during cocktail hour) and sparkling hard cider. Also on offer was beer brewed by friends, and strawberry-rhubarb martinis made with rhubarb grown by the couple. Music was provided by Jesse's brother, a jazz musician, who performed in a trio with friends.

Dinner included chicken from an outdoor grill, challah baked by a friend, and salad greens from the couple's garden; catering was by Christine Ferris Catering. The cake, baked by Anna's mother, was topped with hen salt and pepper shakers and photos of Anna and Jesse with the beloved hens they raise at home.

The evening also included toasts by the newlyweds' siblings and fun on the dance floor. "At one point, Jesse's pals played their original song 'Anna and Jesse Forever!'" says the bride. "It was hilarious, and such a memorable moment."

Kim Seybert is best known for her intricately beaded placemats and runners, but it's her sophisticated glassware that currently controls my obsession. Two collections in particular, Gold Paillette and Croco, caught my eye at this year's New York Gift Fair.

The first, (above) is hand carved and coated in either a gold or silver finish and is perfect for the bride who loves hosting elegant dinner soirées but doesn't mind hand washing her barware after the party! (A small price to pay for hand painted metallic leaf applique.) The second, Croco, is handcrafted of clear glass and features an interesting crocodile-skin design. Dishwasher-friendly, this find is great for everyday use.

Inside Anne Hathaway's NYC Engagement Party

Anne Hathaway and fiancé Adam Shulman celebrated their engagement Saturday night with an intimate 125-person party at Housing Works Bookstore Café in New York City. Located in downtown Manhattan's shopping district, the bookstore cafe occupies a restored historic building with 20-foot ceilings, spiral staircases, and mahogany bookshelves. The space often plays host to a variety of events, including parties like Hathaway's and smaller weddings, and, better still, the rental cost for private parties benefits the store's larger counterpart, Housing Works, a nonprofit organization that works to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS.

While the bookstore is no stranger to the presence of celebrities (the space has appeared in Gossip Girl, Sex in the City, and Law and Order), we think Hathaway's quiet evening among friends and family featured the SoHo landmark at its best. For a wedding held on a farm or in a barn—which is where today's featured couple Anna and Jesse hosted their nuptials—I love the idea of complementing the setting with a simple buttercream-frosted cake accented with rustic touches, like a handful of pinecones and a tree-trunk cake stand.

Proposition 8 Ruled Unconstitutional in California

$

proposition-8-unconstitutional-3.jpg

A three-judge panel in the ninth US circuit court of appeals ruled 2-1 today that Proposition 8—a 2008 voter-approved measure restricting marriage to opposite-sex couples—is unconstitutional. "Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California," judge Stephen Reinhardt said in the ruling.

The court's decision upholds the ruling of a federal judge in 2010 who found the measure to be a violation of civil rights. But Proposition 8's fate doesn't end with today's news. If supporters of the measure appeal to a larger panel (and they will), the US Supreme Court could eventually hear the case, creating a national precedent for same-sex marriage.

Wedding Cake of the Day: Pretty Anenomes

Today's featured couple Jill and Daniel hosted their wedding at an intimate restaurant in San Diego. For dessert, guests enjoyed slices of wedding cake, which was simply decorated with a sugar anenome flower. The popular wedding bloom, with its graphic black-and-white center, is such a striking cake decoration choice. You can even use fresh anemones, like this cake here (created by pastry chefs at the Montage Beverly Hills); when paired with a piped-icing monogram and branch motif, the overall design takes on a more rustic look.

When we spotted this powdered sugar-dusted chocolate cake on Pinterest today, our first thought was "YUM!," immediately followed by the realization that the idea could also totally work as a DIY table number project. When displayed on reception tables, the stenciled cake first functions to help guests find their seat; then later, after dinner, guests can slice into each cake for dessert! (Granted, though, this type of display works best in cooler climates and at smaller receptions.)
