Wedding Invitation of the Week: Neon Glow

Bella Figura, one of my favorite letterpress stationers, recently launched their new collection of wedding invitations. Choosing just one to feature here on the blog was no small task, but this modern design, called "Architect," instantly stood out. The neon-lime color is totally on trend and somehow, the design transported me back to my college days, where I'd cram for exams with my trusty yellow highlighter (as if highlighting passages like crazy would somehow make the facts and figures stick). That hint of nostalgia, combined with the elegant serifed typography, makes this design my pick for a wedding held at a modern venue, like an art gallery, renovated loft, or photography studio. —Heather Lee

4 Surprising Tips to Avoid Getting Sick on Your Wedding Day

The last thing you need on your wedding day is a cold. Or the flu. Or, hey, even PMS. To avoid any number of ailments in the months leading up to your celebration, weigh these four unexpected tips from anti-aging expert and Harvard Medical School alumn Dr. Ed Park:

Consider Birth Control Pills
Assuming you have tried them before and have no health limitations, consider taking birth control pills for the two-to-three months leading up to the wedding. The pills will counter irregular ovulation due to stress, curb any premenstrual 'tendencies,' and help you avoid a period or dysfunctional bleeding that could put the kibosh on honeymoon plans. By taking a pill that you have tolerated well in the past, you can virtually eliminate the problems of not ovulating. And by the second or third month, spotting and persistent ovulation problems are minimal and PMS is usually greatly reduced compared to your natural surges and withdrawals.

Prevent Cold and Flu
Get vaccinated for this season's flu strains. Wash your hands frequently after being in any public spaces or around kids. Never touch or rub your eyes, as that's the main way people contract colds and flus. Tip: Since sick Americans typically don't wear surgical masks like in many East Asian cultures, claim to have a mild cold and wear a mask at the office to protect yourself from coworkers hacking and sneezing in nearby cubicles.

Meditate
Learn to meditate. If incense, chakras, and chanting aren't your style, take 5-10 minutes a day to be in a quiet place with your eyes closes, just to be alone with your thoughts. You need to learn to control your breathing, understand and embrace your fears and fantasies, and visualize your desired and attainable wedding goals.

Activate Your Telomerase
Telomerase is an enzyme that scientists have shown to reverse the signs and symptoms of aging. So what activates telomerase? Sleep, immune health, meditation, exercise, and proper nutrition all seem to improve health by activating that universal stem-cell-healing engine called telomerase.

Elie Saab Spring 2012 Couture Ends with a Bride

Although we think you'd be hard-pressed to find a bride who would turn her back on any one of the 44 flirty looks that Elie Saab sent down the runway earlier this week, the very last look has undeniable bridal appeal.

"I thought of the fairytales," Saab explained after the show, "which all girls dream of, in order to come up with this collection. Concerning colours, I thought of very soft colours but ones that still retained the dazzle I wanted to achieve in this collection."

And dazzle us he did. The wedding gown featured a sweeping pink and white ballgown-style skirt finished with crushed glitter. Cap sleeves, a tied waist, and a cutout neckline all reinforced the fairytale. Not to mention that endless train.

As the designer behind some of our favorite red carpet gowns, Elie Saab will no doubt be front and center at this year's Academy Awards. The question isn't which celebrity will be wearing Elie Saab, but how many.

We have an orange crush on this clutch by Lanvin—it combines two of our favorite trends for spring—tangerine (which happens to be Pantone's color of the year) and box clutches (which you will continue to see more of this year). Sigh, a girl can dream.

For their wedding, Katy and Randy chose Piney River Ranch. "It's relaxed, unpretentious, and gorgeous—everything we love about Colorado," says the bride, who got ready in one of the property's rustic cabins overlooking Piney Lake. The dinner reception was also held near the lake in an open-air pavilion. "We wanted to keep the decorations simple and let the breathtaking views have center stage," Katy says.

For a waterside celebration in Nantucket, the bride and groom commissioned Jodi's Cakes bakery to create a wedding cake that resembled classic Nantucket baskets, which matched the baskets used in all of the reception centerpieces. The basket weave pattern was meticulously fashioned from buttercream; inside, the flavors included lemon curd and blueberry, with fresh hydrangeas as the finishing touch.

We Plan the Obamas' 20th Wedding Anniversary

Hitting the virtual campaign trail on Monday, President Obama sat down for one-on-one conversations with voters in an online chat hosted by Google Plus. Toward the end of the hour-long session, Christine—an Evanston, IL resident—asked the President about his plans with the First Lady to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on Oct. 3.

"Sadly, it's a month before the election," the President told her. "I don't know how romantic a weekend we're actually gonna get. We may have to defer the full celebration until later in November." No romantic plans?! That simply won't do, Mr. President.

Why not return to the scene of your wedding (and squeeze in some quality hometown time) by spending the weekend in Chicago? For a retreat worthy of the First Couple, we recommend taking up at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Back in 2008, the Obamas watched the results come in on election night from the hotel—but a weekend in the Monarch Suite would be all about the Four-Diamond-rated amenities, such as the Lakeshore Athletic Club and Stetson's Chop House.

If the Obamas are more of the toes-in-the-sand type, a weekend in the President's native Hawaii might be just the thing. The Royal Suite at the St. Regis Princeville on Kauai features private butler service, an intimate adjoining spa with a marble tub for two, and a furnished outdoor terrace with views of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai mountain. If you actually leave the suite, the hotel also offers two golf courses, an infinity pool, and a restaurant by Jean-Georges.

Now, on to our suggestions for balancing the budget...

I am totally smitten with this autumnal wedding centerpiece from Honey of a Thousand Flowers. The fall foliage and garden roses add a pop of warm color while the combination of lamb's ear, crab apples, and wild grass give texture and depth to the arrangement. I especially love the asymmetry of this centerpiece, which gives it a wild, woodsy feel.

Watch: Mena Suvari in Christian Siriano's Spring 2012 Campaign

Although brides must wait until March to snag one of the two bridal gowns Christian Siriano designed exclusively for Nordstrom, the Project Runway alum's Spring 2012 video campaign premiered this week just in time to tie you over.

The ad stars actress Mena Suvari modeling a range of looks from Siriano's Katharine Hepburn-inspired collection at the Soho Grand Hotel. While we can't exactly picture Hepburn donning one fiercely tangerine gown in particular (tangerine pants, however, yes), the look would make an ideal gown for trend-obsessed brides. Pantone predicted that tangerine will be the color in 2012, something Siriano clearly already knew. Click here to see our tips on translating the trend into your wedding style.

Accessory of the Day: Valentino Bib Necklace

Bib necklaces continue to be a major trend this season and they are the perfect icing on the proverbial wedding cake or dress for that matter. The statement piece instantly glams up a simple (read, inexpensive) strapless dress, and the jewelry can be worn for years to come. This Valentino bib really caught our eye because it could look modern or vintage, depending on how you pair it. The Swarovski crystals are embedded on organza for a comfortable finish and the gold plating makes the crystals really pop. It's a gem for sure. Sorry, couldn't resist.
